The Role:
Debtwire is seeking a deputy editor to join its team in Hong Kong, where they will help shepherd copy from rough draft to polished prose on tight deadlines. The ideal candidate will have flawless English language skills and a background in financial journalism. Experience covering corporate finance, distressed debt and/or restructuring are a plus, but not required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Editing reporter and analysts drafts to ensure that there are no factual inaccuracies or logical flaws.
- Working with reporters and analysts to determine how to approach a story or report, what angles should be worked, what sourcing is required and whether the reporters/analysts should coordinate with others on the team or other ION Analytics products to produce the story/analyst report.
- Fact checking.
- Checking all copy for defamatory statements and/or misrepresentation of facts and assessing any other legal and/or reputational risks the stories may pose to the company.
- Stopping any story from publication and informing either Managing Editors whenever there are legal and reputational risks involved in a story.
- Overseeing aggregated content to make sure that headlines accurately reflect the meaning of a story or announcement, and that these stories are free of grammatical errors.
- Writing stories for Debtwire that summarize court documents including those from US Bankruptcy Courts.
- Writing stories for Debtwire that summarize non-court documents (e.g. letters sent by ad hoc committees to debtors).
- Checking other ION Analytics sites to see whether there is aggregated content that should be re-issued or re-tagged for Debtwire and whether there are companies that should be added to the Debtwire universe.
- Posting time sensitive creditor group/company/rating agency/primary issue announcements.
- Scanning newsletters and specialized publications for items that should be aggerated.
- Checking opps to makes sure they are properly tagged for lifecycle events, topics, relationship groups etc and making adjustments wherever necessary.
Required Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree, preferably with a focus on financial journalism
- English language skills
- Experience covering corporate finance, distressed debt and/or restructuring are a plus
