The Role

ION Analytics is looking for a writer to add to our Insights team, a weekly data-driven and forward-looking publication read by many of the world’s top decision makers in banks, law firms and private equity firms.

The Insights team produces a weekly column called Dealspeak, which uses data from ION’s Dealogic and Mergermarket platforms to identify trends in mergers and acquisitions. Your job would be to tell the story behind the numbers, using your industry sources to help join the dots and provide predictive insights. You will work with a team of data analysts and journalists to unearth data points on an industry, sub-sector, company or investment vehicle, such as private equity or special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs). From that data you would then craft a commentary that provides proprietary and predictive insights. One week, you might be asked to weave a data-driven story around Microsoft’s blockbuster Activision Blizzard acquisition, how that impacts the gaming or metaverse sectors, and how competitors might respond next. Another week, you would take the leveraged buyout of Citrix Systems and craft a story around the LBO market and how that might evolve in the year ahead. On a different week, you might pick a sector, such as community banking, cryptocurrencies or semiconductors, and look at the pushes and pulls of M&A activity in that niche and predict what could happen next. You will have the ability to craft compelling stories around data using punchy and succinct language, raise questions about the future, and help spark ideas in key decision makers.

The Dealspeak is delivered to Mergermarket, Dealreporter and Dealogic subscribers every week.
