Did you know? 

  1. More than 50% of surface area in most downtowns is dedicated to roads and parking lots.
  2. The area outside of the home that parents feel comfortable letting their children play in unsupervised has shrunk by 90% since the 1970s, according to the influential book Last Child in the Woods by Richard Louv.
  3. People have fewer friends and acquaintances when they live near high traffic corridors. (From a study conducted by Transportation Alternatives.)
  4. People in very high traffic areas have an average of just 0.9 friends–meaning some people have no friends at all!
